There has been a flood in sweet potato costs in Tamale, a city in a locale customarily known for its plentiful supply of the item.
Despite the fact that it is a season where sweet potato is supposed to be less expensive, costs have soar multiple times the standard thing
costs.
A visit by the Ghana News Organization (GNA) to the Tamale Focal Market uncovered that three little tubers of sweet potato,
which were recently sold for Gh₵10, is presently selling somewhere in the range of Gh₵30 and Gh₵40.
Three medium size tubers, which sold for Gh₵30, presently goes for GH₵70.
One of the dealers, who gave her name as Hajia Memuna, let the GNA know that the flood in cost was surprising
during this season.
She said the long stretch of June was known for the overflow of the new sweet potato and ascribed the flood to postponed downpour
designs.
She regretted the desperate impact of cost changes on the business and said she recorded lower deals contrasted with
Mama Shemima Mohammed, likewise a sweet potato vender, said sweet potatoes could be tracked down in certain networks in the locale at
lower costs.
Notwithstanding, the expense of shipping them to the local capital added to the climb in costs, she said.
Ms Mohammed said while the costs per size differed starting with one vender then onto the next, sweet potatoes had commonly become
more costly in Tamale.
In the mean time, the impact is being felt on costs of broiled sweet potato in the city, where a sizable piece, beforehand
sold for 50 pesewas, is currently decreased into more modest pieces of three being sold for Gh₵2.00.
